Making Cuba Safe for American Agribusiness: III Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit BC cycle - June 6, 2002 Riceland Foods to be among exhibitors in Havana, official says Little Rock--Riceland Foods of Stuttgart is to be among more than 150 companies planning to take part in an exhibit of U.S. food and farm products next fall in Havana, according to an official of the company planning the exhibition. PWN Exhibicon International of Westport, Conn., has received permission to hold the first such exhibit in Cuba since the U.S. imposed a trade embargo on the Caribbean country 40 years ago. Peter Nathan, president of PWN Exhibicon, said other companies expected to attend are Gold Kist and Perdue Farms, a major poultry producer on the East Coast. He said he also expects Tyson Foods Inc. to attend, but no one at Springdale-based Tyson could be reached for comment Wednesday. PWN Exhibicon held the first American exhibit of health-care supplies in Cuba in 2000, with nearly 100 U.S. companies participating, Nathan said. The exhibition at Havana will feature products such as rice, poultry, and branded food and beverages, he said. The five-day event will be open to all Cuban residents on the final day. Nathan's company is the only U.S. firm to get a license for Cuban trade shows from the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control. The license was issued in 2001, but Nathan had to wait for final approval from the Cuban government. source - JosePertierra@aol.com ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytcari-06.06.02-14:06:51-24215
