New Riots Erupt in Belfast AFP - via Times of India - APRIL 22, 2002 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow.asp?art_id=7622874 New riots erupt in northern Belfast BELFAST: Fresh rioting erupted on Sunday between rival gangs of Protestant and Catholic youths in northern Belfast, police said. They said the youths had lobbed hand-made grenades at police who responded by firing rubber bullets at the intersection of a Catholic district and a Protestant stronghold that has been the scene of almost daily clashes for the past 18 months. There were no injuries. The riots highlight continuing sectarian tensions between Northern Ireland's two communities -- Protestant loyalists who want to maintain British rule and Catholic nationalists who want a united Ireland. ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytire-04.25.02-18:12:30-2566
