Yah-Choo! Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit Yah-choo! Groups Maybe the pigs are examining every piece of mail sent to Yahoo Groups (during daytime hours only, of course) because of the upcoming march on Wash. We sort of doubt it -- we think they're just trying out their latest spam traps for unwary users and they're working out the kinks. In any event, it's clear we can no longer post to Yahoo Groups with any reliability except between the hours of 2:00 and 6:00 a.m. EDT. They've probably hired some of those ignorant know-nothing Microsoft-'trained' MCSEs because there are so many out of work and they come cheap. They should be hiring some experienced unix engineers instead. So, we'll stop posting completely to Yah-Whores Groups until they get their act together, except for the RHC news to the spanish and french groups, which we send after midnight anyway. It's too difficult to keep track of what has posted, what's delayed, and what has just disappeared. As always, interested readers can find all our news at our own advertising-free, non-corporate or foundation-funded Blythe Systems network. we are also continuing to post much of our material on the excellent ACTIV-L mailing list run by Rich Winkel, aka on usenet as the newsgroup misc.activism.progressive. This university-based mailing list is unix-based, too. Following is an item about the Yah-whores' latest Desperation move to sell their users to spewers of corporate vomit: You get what you pay for. But don't feel bad; the advertisers are getting a lot less than they've paid for -- no one reads their trash or clicks on their jumping jellybeans, and fewer and fewer of them are signing contracts with Yahoo. [This item was reposted on the Ontario DXers Assn. list on yahoo. Yahoo is so busy selling everyone's data they can't even keep their damned services online. Methinks they are doing better selling spam victims than they are selling advertising...] YAHOO IS AT IT AGAIN! URGENT: PROTECT YOUR INFO! Please let everyone you know, know of this right now! Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track you around the net & see what you are doing. ...like cookies. [well, sort of, close enough] Take a look at http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/pixels/details.html Somewhere about halfway down the page in the right hand side paragraph, there is a blue tiny little link that lets you opt-out of their electronic snooping. I advise everyone to do so immediately if not sooner. Also note that when you opt out, a window opens that says you have successfully opted out, but also says that if you want to cancel opt out to press the small [button] below. DON'T click the small button thinking that it is the final opt out. NOT!!!!! [Just hit "Return to Yahoo Privacy" instead.] NY Transfer News ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytmed-04.18.02-16:43:42-27275
