Yahoo! Sneaks in Yet More Spam Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit Yahoo Sneaks in Yet More Spam In the "You Get What You Pay for Department," what a hoot! Yahoo is now so desperate for revenue they have turned ON all the "yes send me spam" indicators for their users who chose "NO do NOT send me spam!" They just did a RESET, and now everyone is wide open to spam. They sent out no notification to those who said "I never want to hear from yahoo" because .... the notification went out before they did their Reset. So Users with "no spam" settings got no notice, then they got reset, and now they get spam. (And Yahoo's "privacy [sic] policy" clearly says that they can make changes without notice. So they've done nothing wrong...) As soon as the user turns everything off again, their popmail access is removed (they are going pay with that service on Monday anyway). Some people are putting the e-mail address of the FTC in as their contact addresses now on new accounts. So when the spammers harvest their addresses, they send the spam to the FTC. To UNDO it, go to the following URL and sign in: http://edit.my.yahoo.com/config/eval_profile Select "Edit Your Marketing preferences" within the "member information" section and individually change all selections in a series of marketing categories, from YES to NO. Don't forget to hit SAVE CHANGES! Make sure you ALSO tell them (at the bottom of this page) that you do not want Postal Mail or TELEPHONE solicitations, either! If you ever gave them your real address or phone number, you might want to make some adjustments to that as well. Here's the whole sordid story from MSNBC.
