US BOMBS NEW LEADERS OF AFGHANISTAN ON THEIR WAY TO KABUL source - "Dave Bosankoe" BBC Online - 21 December, 2001, 17:10 GMT Confusion over US bombing raid American Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has said US planes have been in action again in Afghanistan. He told journalists the planes had successfully bombed a convoy carrying either Taleban or al-Qaeda members. "It was a large convoy, and there were a lot of people killed and a lot of vehicles damaged or destroyed," Mr Rumsfeld said. The convoy was attacked in the province of Khost in the south-east of the country. However, other reports say the planes mistakenly bombed a convoy of Afghan tribal chiefs heading for the capital, Kabul, for the inauguration of the new interim administration. A member of the local government, or shura, in the region told the BBC 15 people had been killed in the bombing. Other reports put the death toll much higher. Details are still coming in. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/newsid_1724000/1724129.stm ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytmid-12.21.01-20:27:27-5550
