NYC: Vicki Rovere on cable TV and on the web Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit NYC: Vicki Rovere on Cable & Webcast Dear Folks, Musician/songwriter/organizer Joel Landy hosts a half-hour cable show called "Songs of Freedom," which airs (so to speak) in Manhattan and Queens. He invited me on the show, which we taped early in February. First he performed for about ten minutes; then he interviewed me and had me sing a few songs. I'm sorry to say I wasn't nearly as good as I was at my recent performance at Peoples' Voice Cafe--I was nervous, and I would have chosen more and different material to sing, and not talked so much about my political history. But I've watched the tape, and it wasn't excruciating. Songs of Freedom will air in Queens on Channel 56 on Saturday, March 2 at 9 p.m. It will air in Manhattan on Channel 34 on Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. It will also be webcast at that same time (Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. EST) at www.mnn.org. You'll need to download the free Quicktime software, so don't leave it till the last minute! If you're in the neighborhood, I'd like to recommend turning up at Peoples' Voice the night of March 16. The performers that night are Dave Lippman, who's a terrific satiric songwriter, and Professor Louie, who performs poems with conga accompaniment. His style predates rap -- the lyrics are powerful, political, wry, empassioned. I expect it to be an intense and satisfying evening. That's Saturday, March 16, 8 p.m. (doors open 7:30) at Peoples' Voice Cafe, at Workmen's Circle, 45 E. 33 St. (west of Park Ave.). $10 regular admission, $5 for seniors/on strike/up against the machine. Peace, Vicki [Vicki Rovere is the author of "Where to Go in New York," a guide to public toilets in Gotham, now in its second edition.
