For the TOPLAB Internship Program-- Please see the detailed description of the Internship Program on our website at http://www.toplab.org The Internship Program is designed for activists in various community, social change and justice, labor, educational, political, peace, solidarity, health and mental health, etc. organizations, and its purpose is to train such people in Theater of the Oppressed techniques which they will use within their own groups or among their own specific constituencies. Interns MUST be part of an organization and/or have a constituency with which they are actively involved. Any organization or group, in any area or with any specific concern, that is working for change and is socially and politically progressive is eligible. Unaffiliated individuals will not be accepted as Interns. To apply for the Internship Program, please send a detailed description of your organization and/or constituency. Tell us about its size, purpose, with whom it works, and how its program affects its members or constituents. Give concrete examples of some of the work or projects undertaken, and assess them in terms of their success. Let us know how you hope to use the techniques you will learn within your group, and why you think Theater of the Oppressed techniques will be useful or beneficial. Tell us about yourself: prior or current Theater of the Oppressed or general theater/acting experience (prior experience not necessary) you have had; prior or current political or organizing experience; what Theater of the Oppressed means to you personally. Please tell us about your travel experience (foreign), if any, and also let us know if you have had any experience working in underdeveloped countries. Similarly, let us know what experience you have had, if any, working with poor or marginalized populations. Tell us if you are a member of a labor union, and if so, which union. Please let us know how you first heard about Theater of the Oppressed, and how you first heard about the Theater of the Oppressed Laboratory. Finally, please send any other comments or notes that you think will be useful in our evaluation of your application. Internship Program fees: $200 consultation fee (nonrefundable; due in full prior to the workshop of January 25-26, 2003) $725 workshop fees*, including $25 nonrefundable Internship orientation workshop fee *(Individual workshops are on a sliding scale of $75 to $100 per workshop. If your tuition is being paid by your organization, or if you will be reimbursed by your organization, we ask that you pay the higher rate of $100 per workshop, though this is not mandatory. Payment can be made in full prior to the January 25-26 workshop, or you can pay as you go on an individual workshop basis. All workshop fees on a pay-as-you-go basis must be paid prior to each workshop. Payment of fees at the lower sliding rate will in no way affect TOPLAB's decision regarding acceptance into the Program.) Interns are expected to attend all workshops in the Internship Program series. Interns will be given priority acceptance into the residencies with Augusto Boal. The priority deadline for 2003 Internship Program applications is November 15, 2003. For more information, go to http://www.toplab.org or send an inquiry to toplab@toplab.org 2. Enrollment for non-Interns in individual workshops-- Acceptance into workshops is not guaranteed; individual participants will be given consideration after Interns' and 2001-2002 workshop participants' places have been assigned. Because we expect more demand than available places, individual participants are asked to send some information about themselves. Admittance is not on a first-come, first-served basis. Please tell us what, if any, experience you have had with Theater of the Oppressed, or with theater generally. Tell us about your involvement in or work with social-change movements or organizations. What do you hope to get out of these workshops? Do you plan to use the techniques in your social action work? How? Are you a member of a labor union? If so, which one? Are you a student? If so, where? Are you a teacher? How did you hear about the Theater of the Oppressed and the Theater of the Oppressed Laboratory? Any other comments? Individual workshop fees are on a sliding scale of $75 to $100. Full payment must be received by the start of the specific workshop for which you are applying. Payment on the first day of a workshop is acceptable. Note that acceptance is not based on monetary considerations, but we do ask that people who can afford to do so pay at the higher rates. Similarly, if your tuition is being paid by an organization, or if you will be reimbursed by such, we ask that you try to pay at the higher rates. All workshops take place at the Brecht Forum, 122 West 27 Street 10 floor (between 6 and 7 Avenues), Manhattan.
