Businessman Pedro Carmona had been under house arrest in the custody of political police after heading a short-lived transition government that ousted Chavez for 48 hours last month. "I have just been told by the Colombian foreign minister that Pedro Carmona has asked for political asylum and he is in the Colombian Embassy here in Caracas," said Luis Davila, Venezuelan foreign minister.
