In thousands of years of incessant struggle in passing from the kingdom of necessity to that of liberty, humanity generated the working class, and this, with its inexhaustible and growing force, has produced Marxism-Leninism, synthesized in Marx and Engels, in Lenin and Stalin. Thus, from the forging of Marxism, the working class, oppressed peoples, and all humanity have an objective and hope: to construct the new society, the communist society toward which they will march "with a vehement and active faith."
In the period of imperialism and monopolistic, parasitic, and agonizing capitalism, a period in which the working class, by force of its armed hands, conquer power, and in which the growing and furious waves of national liberation sweep away imperialist oppression, the Chinese revolution, which teaches and amazes the world, is developing.
In this historic crucible, the international working class has produced and forged President Mao Tse-tung, who in 1921, founded the Chinese Communist Party, the organized vanguard which led the revolution of new democracy. It culminated with the foundation of the People's Republic of China, which today, by means of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, is developing the socialist revolution and is strengthening the dictatorship of the proletariat.
Thus, Mao Tse-tung thought emerged. And Marxism-Leninism entered the road which guides and incorporates the oppressed peoples in the uncontrollable storm of world revolution. In this manner, Marxism Leninism entered the road which develops the socialist revolution, and marches inexorably toward its future objective, that is, the Communist Society.
In this great frame of the class struggle in his great country and throughout the world, Mao inherited, defended, and developed Marxism-Leninism. He defended it against the revisionism which today, unmasked as Soviet social-imperialism, is the principal source of war in these times. He developed Marxism-Leninism in all areas, elevating it to its current situation as Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tse-tung thought. Thus Marxism, in the flame of the class struggle, and the actions of the great teachers of the proletariat, became in Marxism-Leninism, and this developed into Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tse-tung thought. In consequence, today, to be a Marxist is to adhere to Marxism-Leninism-Mao thought.
President Mao is dead! His great heart has ceased to beat; its pulse has stopped, and his life is extinguished. A thick, heavy, and deep sorrow falls upon the working class and the oppressed peoples of the Earth, and the red flag at half mast droops in universal grief. The great teacher of the international proletariat has ceased to exist, and his unfathomable absence is felt throughout the world; it is the great absence which Marx left us, the great absence which Lenin left us. But then and now, the working class and the masses of the people are converting their sorrow into strength, will continue toward reaching their brilliant objective, and will always be raising the invincible flags of Marx, Lenin, and Mao.
The organizations adhering to Mariátegui, in this hour of sorrow, express to the Chinese people, to the Chinese working class, and to the great, glorious, Chinese Communist Party their most profound regret at the death of President Mao, the great teacher of the international working class, of the oppressed peoples of the world, and of the world revolution, whose thought illuminated the world, and will illuminate it forever.
ETERNAL GLORY TO PRESIDENT MAO! Lima, September 18, 1976.
Coordinating Committee - Organizations Adhering to Mariátegui Our objective is to begin a campaign turning to Maoism, a short way of saying Marxism- Leninism-Maoism. Maoism is currently the abbreviated form of saying Marxism-Leninism- Maoism
Next year will be 90 years since the birth of President Mao Tse-tung, who was born on December 26, 1893. It is evident that today there is a sharp struggle on Maoism; at the bottom is basically a struggle between Marxism and revisionism. In addition, among those who defend President Mao, there is not yet sufficient clarity and complete adhesion to Maoism as the third stage of Marxism. That's why we say this is a struggle about Maoism.
We should raise the slogan: VIVA MAOISM! To launch this great campaign, which obviously is of a strategic character. It is a campaign of great dimensions, and a complex problem, a difficult task. But it is an obligation which we have as communists, as Marxist-Leninist-Maoists. We cannot do less than to think on the complexity of this campaign. But its importance has much greater weight, and historically, it is necessary because world revolution needs Maoism in order to develop higher combativeness so that revolution may conquer higher summits, and that the strategic offensive of the world revolution may be developed, tasks to which we the communists of the world are obligated to complete. We are not trying to say that Maoism limits itself only up to that point. Marxism-Leninism-Maoism has programmatic points, laws, and principles which aim toward communism, and shape the march to that great objective, which was specified from the beginning by Marx. This is because the ideology of the proletariat is a powerful science, which is developed through the great jumps generated at each stage: Marxism with Marx, Leninism with Lenin, Maoism with Mao, as the first, second, and third successive stages of the Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism of today.
Thus, the objective is to develop a campaign which has strategic character, and serves the world revolution. Under the circumstances, the contribution which we can make is important, not to say decisively, but yes, it is important within the context in which we are developing. We don't try to say what history will do. History, through the class struggle, establishes its laws, and defines the situations. It is possible that our own Party or others can make a decisive contribution.
At this moment, it is more necessary than ever for us to talk about Maoism, and obviously we cannot do so without referring to the struggle at the world level against revisionism. Thus it is vital and urgent that we turn to discuss Maoism, and try to better define its contents and meaning. This is guided by the criteria that by upholding, defending, and applying Maoism, it is the essentially the struggle between Marxism and revisionism at the present time.
We must think of how we can develop multiple campaigns to attain results that are solid, and of long perspective. Basing ourselves in the transcendence of the People's War guided by Maoism, we can conduct the indoctrination of militants, combatants, and masses. The problem is to put the ideological dynamic in motion. We seek to contribute in the defense of what is most important to defend: Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. This campaign will have repercussions because everywhere there are masses, revolutionaries, and communists, and we are interested in them, reaching, because they are the most open-minded. It is necessary to make an effort so they can understand us, and it is certain that Marxism does not arise spontaneously without effort and struggle. This is the law of Marxism. Marxism has not taken a step in life, or gained anything, without struggle, and Maoism is not going to be an exception, either.
The struggle for Maoism, as the third stage of Marxism, is and will be hard, long, complex, and difficult. Spontaneously, nothing will be gained. That is our history. We have no other roads that to struggle, strive, endure, and persist, and time so that practice can show its truthfulness.
It is the beginning of a campaign which the Party ought to go about organizing step by step. We are opening an arduous but a necessary campaign. It is important for the international proletariat, which is our class. The idea is as follow: This is the beginning of a campaign and struggle by communists in the service of the proletariat. Consider it as a bold step that we must take. Every bold step is the beginning of a new task, and the new always present a problem: because it is insufficiently known terrain. We may step firmly, certain that every beginning can only be so. At the beginning, many questions will arise, since there are things of which we have insufficient knowledge. Therefore, we must be more wise, more firm, more rigorous with ourselves. We must apply the idea: Give battle, and we will learn as we develop it. Communists are bold, and we are bold because we are consequently materialists, and we are not afraid of making mistakes, and we are not afraid to face anyone, because the truth is on our side. This is our conviction, and we cannot have another. We are men of conviction, "convicted and confessed" of the greatest, transforming, scientific ideology, tested in thousands of glorious battles. There has not been, nor is there, any ideology on Earth, which has had the practical test of Marxism- Leninism-Maoism, nor ever will be the millions of people that will be dragged by so powerful a revolutionary storm.
For the fulfillment of this task, let us begin to understand Maoism according to the outline presented below:

The People's War has allowed us to understand better the development of Marxism-Leninism made by President Mao Tse-tung. Today, we are before a third stage of the ideology of the international proletariat, and thus, this has been concretized in Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, principally Maoism. So, in the 4th Plenum of the Central Committee, we agreed upon the slogan: Toward Maoism! In this Session, we agreed to impose MLM, principally Maoism, as the authority and general guide to all of our Party activities. In addition, we agreed to serve and struggle in order MLM, principally Maoism, be the command and guide of the world revolution, everything in function of the unwavering and glorious objective of all humanity, that is communism.
