The Case of Cantuta Unmasks the Dictatorship and the Genocidal Armed Forces.

THEY CAN NO LONGER HIDE THEIR CRIMES AGAINST THE PEOPLE

The attempts by the reactionaries to hide the kidnapping and later the assassination of the nine students and one professor from the University Enrique Guzma'n y Valle "La Cantuta " on July 18, 1992, were in vain.

When the voice of the Peruvian people, El Diario, raised its denunciation before the world, of the decomposed remains of the victims found in the district of Cienenguilla, which was an irrefutable proof of a genocidal military action, the reactionaries then tried to confuse public opinion, by attributing the sinister summary execution, to the PCP.

Later, servile elements of the genocidal dictatorship, like the shameless prosecutor Blanca Nélida Colán, and the cynical Congressperson Martha Chávez, sought to link the journalists of the magazine "Si" with the authors of the massacre so they can stop their investigation. Furthermore, in a desperate attempt to sweep the facts under the rag, they threatened to jail the editor of that magazine under the trump up charge of being "against the public administration".

Today no one doubts that the genocidal armed forces were responsible for the crime. Nevertheless, investigations into this case suffer from the lethargy and coverup by the same genocidal Fujimori dictatorship that tries to investigate its own crimes and thus, free itself from all responsibility.

The Attorney General blocked the participation of world-renowned foreign forensic and anthropologists, sent at the request of Amnesty International, a few days after the finding of the remains, precisely, at the most suitable moment to examine and identify them.

Months later, a delegation transported the remains to Europe to conduct the necessary tests. The man responsible for the trip is Dr. Anibal Escalante, a man tied to the family environment of Fujimori, and his head doctor, who had treated him for food poisoning, which was caused when he ate contaminated fish during his electoral campaign of 1990.

The prosecutor, Victor Cubas Villanueva, frequently acts with implacable slownes and neglect while, killers from the so-called death squad "Colina" group, and others who after being exposed, fled the country with the aid of their colleagues and friends in the reactionary army.

This incompetent prosecutor now drags on the process of accusation, bottling himself in struggles with the judge Carlo Magno Chaco'n. Who is this judge? He is a lawyer without the scruples for this position. Carlo Magno Chaco'n was removed from the post of Provincial Attorney General of Leoncio Prado, Hua'nuco, in April 1987. He was accused of freeing drug traffickers after receiving big bribes, and also of committing crimes of failure of duty.

The investigations are also being hindered by the Congressmen of officialdom. One of them is the notorious Gilberto Siura, a cunning individual who plays the role Chairman of the Commission of Defense of Congress, a servile and crony of Fujimori. But he was useless this time, because he could not hide the evidence fast enought, and for this reason he will be removed from his post, possibly opening the way for Juan Hermoza de Bari, brother of the murderous Nicolás Hermoza Rios, chairman of the Joint Command of the reactionary armed forces.

Another possible successor of Siura would be the official Manuel de la Torre Bardales. He, like another fifty congressmen, has a debt of ten thousand dollars to the National Bank, which he doesn't plan to pay off in exchange for his services to the genocidal regime of Fujimori. That's the nature of the rotten state that must be destroyed once and for all in order to build the State of New Democracy.
